Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has announced plans to appeal a Federal High Court judgment that nullified the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) under David Mark. Atiku described the ruling as an attempt to undermine his ambitions for the 2027 presidential election, stating that it is a deliberate effort to frustrate his candidacy and that of the party.
The ADC has also expressed its intention to contest the court's decision, which not only invalidated Mark's leadership but also affected Atiku's eligibility to run for president. The party's leadership firmly rejected the ruling, asserting that it undermines the democratic process and vowing to pursue all legal avenues to restore their leadership and Atiku's candidacy for the upcoming elections.S2
In a strong response, the ADC warned the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) that their actions are akin to 'playing with fire' in their attempts to weaken the opposition. The party emphasized that such judicial interventions could have dire consequences for the political landscape in Nigeria, reflecting a deepening crisis between the ruling party and opposition forces.S3
