Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed hope that the outcome of the upcoming US midterm elections will lead to increased support for Ukraine. He specifically mentioned his expectations regarding the Democrats potentially taking control of both chambers of Congress, which he believes could benefit Kyiv significantly. Zelensky's comments reflect a broader anticipation that a Democratic majority would enhance the clarity and magnitude of US assistance to Ukraine during its ongoing conflict with Russia.

In a statement provided to the German broadcaster ZDF, Zelensky acknowledged the support from Republicans but emphasized that the Democrats have been more vocal about their commitment to aiding Ukraine. "I am also grateful to the Republicans, but the Democrats speak very clearly about supporting Ukraine and providing assistance to Ukraine," he stated, highlighting the importance of political alignment in securing foreign aid and military support during critical times.S2

Zelensky's remarks come as the war in Ukraine continues to escalate, with the need for international support becoming increasingly urgent. The Ukrainian government has been actively seeking military and financial assistance from Western allies, and the outcome of the US elections could play a pivotal role in shaping the future of this support. As the election approaches, Zelensky's focus on the Democratic Party's stance underscores the strategic importance of US political dynamics in the context of the Ukraine war.S1S2
